Build Your Own Website

We would love to build a website for you, but sometimes it’s fun and satisfying to build a website yourself.  We’ll help you learn how.

You could buy or download a program, such as front page, where you drag, drop or place pictures and text where you want them to go, but if you want to really get into building your website it’s a good idea to learn HTML.  Even if you only want to build this one website, HTML is a valuable tool and will help you understand what’s going on with your site.

If you want to get further into website design I’d recommend learning CSS and possibly PHP.  CSS lets you make your site “pretty” and still have it be search engine friendly.

If you are a visual person you could design your site in ImageReady and optimize it for the web.  I’ll show you how to do that as well.  Making your site with ImageReady is not quite as search engine friendly as CSS but it looks nice.  I’d still recommend learning HTML even if you are going to design your site using ImageReady.

With any of these methods I’d recommend using DreamWeaver as your code editor.  DreamWeaver is a great tool that lets you write internet languages and lets you see how they will look when they are uploaded.  It’s for visual people who like to see what they are doing and for people who like to write code without needing to see the end product.
